Would you like to add PAT testing to the portfolio of services your company offers? Would you like to be able to carry out minor repairs in your workplace? Are you looking for a Certificate of Competence in PAT testing? If the answer to any of these questions is "yes"; then the In-Depth Workshop is for you.

This 2-part course with full day workshop will allow the delegate to understand PAT Testing in more detail and to carry out minor repairs, such as changing plugs and cables. With enough practice, this will allow the delegate to start offering PAT Testing as a service to other companies. It is also an ideal 'next step' for anyone who has previously completed our distance learning or half day PAT training courses.

This is a practical based course and all delegates will learn how to correctly identify cables, wire plugs and use a variety of PAT Testers to test appliances and identify faults commonly found in the workplace. With small class sizes, candidates will receive plenty of individual attention to ensure all their questions are answered.

The course covers a wide range of topics including:

  • Class of construction
  • Formal Visual Inspection
  • Fuses
  • PAT testing - practical
  • Basic electrical theory in relation to PAT testing
  • Cable types and wiring plugs
  • Testing microwave ovens
  • Detailed information on Earth Continuity and Insulation Resistance
  • How to deal with long extension leads and surge protected appliances
  • Testing RCDs, 110v transformers, 3-phase equipment and other non-standard appliances
  • Other related tests such as Earth Leakage, Run and Flash testing
  • Overview of a variety of PA Testers
  • Understand the importance of checking the fixed installation
  • Electric shock and it's effects on the human body
  • Prevention of shock using Equipotential Bonding

2-Part Competency Course

A Distance Learning CD will be despatched to all delegates prior to the course. This will introduce the delegate to various aspects of PAT Testing and help them to get the most out of our training day. The cost of this is included in the price of the course. It is yours to keep to use as an ongoing reference tool.

Everyone satisfactorily completing both parts of the course will be awarded a "Certificate of Competence in PAT Testing".

Comprehensive course notes are provided for each delegate as well as a FREE copy of the "PAT Testing Handbook", worth £36. Our experienced course tutors are all qualified engineers with significant practical experience in the field of electrical safety, and will therefore be able to help you with any questions you may have on the day.

Ongoing technical support is available free of charge if the delegate finds they need help while PAT Testing after the course. The course price also includes lunch and refreshments during the day. Delegates will also receive a £25 voucher which can be used against the purchase of any PAT Tester package.

Our York courses are priced very competetively at £189 as they are held in our training room. We have lower costs when running the courses here and these are passed onto the customer in the way of lower course fees.
